Looking into Yara

I found refuge through my practice, blending my body with landscapes to navigate my sense of displacement since moving from my home in Lebanon.  This series reflects on the beginning of my journey in a new place, using self-reflection and vulnerability to explore themes of home, nature, and identity.

Fell Down a Hill, Had Grass For Dinner, 200x150cm, oil on canvas
Body Meets Land, 200x150cm, embroidery on fabric

I merge fragments of my body with a landscape, creating a familiar composition that reflects my need to create a home.

Inspired by my grandmother, a seamstress who works with embroidery, I chose fabric as my medium. This medium becomes nostalgic, as I have been playing with textiles since childhood.
